The Farm at Our House begin during the turbulent economy of 2007 when Katherine and Marc Gross were looking for alternative sources of income while the couple was expecting their first child. Marc, a MCPS history teacher with some farming experience began renting 6 community garden plots of Rockville to grow salad greens using only hand tools, which are then sold at the Olney Farmers Market. There, Marc met his future farming partner John Brill and together they started what was then Sligo Creek Farms, farming on a third of an acre. Sligo Creek Farms was renamed The Farm at Our House in 2012 and is now operating on 10 acres of land owned by Our House, a residential job training center for at risk youth. The farm is currently owned by Marc, Katherine and long time farm manager, Anh Doan, a talented organic farmer and visionary originally from Vietnam. The Farm at Our House first received USDA Organic Certification from the Maryland Department of Agriculture in 2008 and has maintained it ever since. They grow over 50 vegetables year-round.
